This Companion Plant A-Z Table shows in tabular form the following, as a quick reference guide:-

  • name of original plant in alphabetical order
  • name of pest/disease of that original plant
  • name of antidote to that pest/disease as a companion plant, or name of companion plant or beneficial insect or animal to the original plant

Marigold African (Tagetes erecta) and French
(Tagetes patula).

A border of French Marigolds with the soft blue of the ageratum flowers cools the orange flower colour of the marigolds and creates a charming picture.

Eelworm.

The roots of marigolds exude material that repels eelworms and so it should be planted near to:-

  • Potatoes,
  • Tomatoes and
  • Roses.

A 4 inch deep mulch of compost, Spent Mushroom Compost, Mown leaves or 0.5 inch deep of mown grass on a flower or vegetable bed or under a hedge:-

  • provides nutrients for the plants,
  • prevents the ground from drying out too quickly and
  • reduces weeding time to once every 3 or 4 months.
