We're
nearly ready to change the site over to the new design and web hosting
arrangement, and are planning to make the change in the next day or two. During
that time you may see some strange behaviour -- the site may appear to be down,
or some things might not work properly. But it will come back in even better
shape. Make sure you visit www.insidehomerecording.com
and not homepage.mac.com/garaymusic to see the correct
site.
Derek is working on a major revamp of the Inside
Home Recording website. Watch for big changes in the very near future—with
luck by the time show #18 goes online.
Over the June 10 weekend, Paul, whose expertise
is in keyboards, bought himself an electric guitar (see photo). It is a Godin SD (in
black), made by the Canadian Godin company in Quebec and Vermont, for use in his
studio and to help him learn the instrument. (Derek also owns a Godin, in his
case an LG
model, which he bought last summer.)
Inside Home Recording (IHR) is a podcast that
covers the latest in home studio recording, hosted by Paul Garay and Derek K.
Miller and based in Vancouver, Canada.
On extra-long episode 17, Paul welcomes "iHost"
Derek K. Miller back for another show, offers an ear training session on phase
cancellation, and reviews Serato Pitch 'n Time LE. Derek reviews the Blue
Snowball USB condenser microphone and interviews musician Craig Northey. The
Mailbag highlights vocal harmonizers and low-priced gadgets and gizmos. Visit
www.insidehomerecording.com and read the full
shownotesfor more.
If
you are looking for the De facto standard in a monophonic pitch
correcting plug-in, this is what I recommend. Auto-Tune 4 is the most flexible,
powerful, and great sounding solution in my opinion. Here are some links for
you:

to your Reason songs? You should check out Drum Kits 2.0 Refill for Reason 3.0.

video
presentation. Overall: I thought it sounded very good and gives you
very flexible control over the sounds, mixing of the kits, and effect settings.
My only gripe was that it took way to long to load on in Mac OS X. When I used
it in Win XP, it loaded much faster, leaving me wondering why that
was?
Universal Audio UAD-1 Ultra PAK "turbo-charges" your host-based DAW -
Paul Garay
On IHR_08_28_06 , Paul reviews the UAD-1 Ultra PAK
giving it 4.5 out of 5 stars. This is an excellent DSP card for those engineers
and musicians who are running native DAW setups and want that extra DSP-based
processing, utilizing the PCI card's 24 "prestine" sounding onboard plug-ins
including classic UA vintage emulations like the LA-2A AND 1176
compressors.
Samson Q1U - Dynamic USB Microphone isn't that bad after all...
A few shows ago, James reviewed this microphone and had to cut the review short. The
reason was that he was unable to download the software that he thought would of
been on the Samson website. When he couldn't find it, we
at IHR sent an email to Samson requesting support. They never did reply for
whatever reason, so a few weeks later we decided to give it another try. After
plugging in the mic without a driver, we opened the Sound Preference Panel using
a Mac OS X Tiger, selected the USB mic (not pictured), and began to record some
voice.
We
were both pleasantly surprised with the results and recommend this mic to anyone
on a budget who wants fairly good sound at a price anyone can
afford.
I am very impressed with this sampler. Not only
is it the most powerful sampler I've ever used, it has the most straight-forward
interface you'd ever hope for in a software sampler. It will import any format
of library you give it, and the built-in effects sound top-notch. It's a great
sampler not only for the studio, but live work as well. - Paul Garay
KONTAKT 2 embodies the future of sampling. No other
software or hardware sampler offers such a comprehensive set of features, so
much flexibility and performance or such a high degree of compatibility. From
authentic library playback of virtually any format to the intuitive creation of
new instruments, from profound sound design to lively and dynamic surround sound
mixes - KONTAKT 2 opens the doors to creativity.
Show #13 interviews blind students from Arkansas, USA and more...
James interviews a couple of visually challanged
students who are avid home recording enthusiasts, Paul reviews Native
Instruments Kontakt 2 sampler and MusicLab's MIDIoverLAN CP software. Listen to IHR_04_14_06
podcast here !
Point your browser to macProVideo.com and check out Paul's new
tutorials on Propellerheads Reason software. Over 3 hours of content will
take you on the grand tour of this very cool software, covering a wide variety

topics.
