NAMM Report
"Nothing is ever like you ever imagine it to be"
(Famous quote from James)
Both Paul and I have attended NAMM shows in the
past, but this one was somewhat 'underwhelming.'
Many of the major vendors seemed to be at a
loss to include anything dazzling or new, although we did
get to see and hear some cool new plug-ins
and some interesting remote control surface which we
willtell you about
soon. The noise level in the convention
center reaches very high volumes at times with all these competing
companies blasting out music so it's very
easy to get tired traipsing around from booth to
booth. It's a great place to people watch
with many of the assembled resembling the bar scene from the
firstStar Wars movie crossed with the
actors in "Spinal Tap" (Although I like the guitar, the number of
'shredders'started to
grate.)The highlight of today, was
meeting various luminaries of the recording industry. Paul introduced me
toRoger Nichols, whom he'd previously met in
Vancouver. Roger I was told, engineered all of Steely Dan's albums.....how cool
is that? Very in my opinion. We also
got to 'press the flesh' with Paul White, the main reviewer of Sound on Sound
magazine from the UK.Tomorrow will bring
fresh surprises, so stay tuned. Cheers
for now,James and
Paul.
