Fine Felt Tutorial
The following photos show some of the steps in making fine felt scarves. There are many variations in technique and design, however. Experiment!

Fine merino wool is pulled very thinly.
You should be able to see the mat below.
Straighten edges. Holes are ok, too.
Feltable yarn (mohair) is added.
Add another fine layer of wool.
The wool is still very thin.
Lightly misted with soapy tepid water.
Plastic covering keeps some water in.
Smooth out air bubbles and even the H2O.
Roll up.
Roll with full length of forearms.
You don't need to press too hard.
Be sure to roll from elbows to fingers.
These fibers pass the pinch test (felt).
Squeeze excess water out.
Fold or bunch into a "package".
Throw repeatedly. Watch for splats.
The felt begins to "full" and shrink.
Be sure to open and pull apart any folds that felt together.
The fibers contract further.
The fabric is both strong & delicate.
Rinse, then press to flatten and dry.
Viola! Ready to wear in less than 2 hr
