Galoot's Progress image

I'm now blogging (even I can't explain this). The ruminations of a tool-fiend can be read here.
Worse yet, I'm photo-blogging. See one Galoot's attempts at photography (ever wonder what the guts of a 1950's era King-Seely bandsaw (aka Neanderbuddy) look like?

Depending
on how you found your way here, you may be wondering what a Galoot is. Yeah, I know the dictionary definition, oafish fellow and all that, but in Internet woodworking circles a Galoot is a person with a deep passion for old hand tools, their ways, workings, and their history. The hard core Galoots are members of the Old Tools email list, a virtual gathering place otherwise known as the Porch.

As to this little corner of the Internet, well, a friend walked into my office a while back and asked me what Galoot's do for a mid-life crisis. Without so much as blinking, I told him that we go a little crazy, buy a bunch of old hand tools and put up a web site. Yep.

Okay, if you have been here before, you know the drill. Anything new is so marked by "New" or "Updated." If you are a beginning Galoot, I guess I'm offering a somewhat erratic and Not Officially Authorized Orientation to the Porch.

As well as the orientation, I've organized my scattered thoughts into some information that you might find useful:

Some observations on the Galoot life:

I have some stuff of interest to Collectors and the more inquisitive of you bottom feeding Users:

Want to see my scrapbook? You do? Cool!

And if you're REALLY bored:

Got to go? Well, hey thanks for stopping by. Eh? The name is Tom Price. Yep. See you on the Porch. Don't be a stranger now.

Material from other Galoots was used with permission. My thanks to Jay Sutherland for making his plane art available for all to use.
...always
