Actually, what it most reminds me of is the tedious and interminable 
Agfa press conferences at photokina.  A succession of Agfa managers 
would take the podium and drone on and on in the most stilted and 
technical German imaginable.  Very few of us in the press managed to 
stay awake for the duration.  The only reason anybody came to the press 
conferences was that if you did manage to last to the bitter end they 
rewarded you with a very nice bag of "goodies" as you departed.  We 
took a vote one time in the press room at the Messe and Agfa won hands 
down for most boring press conferences, even outdoing the Swiss firms, 
which is really saying something!!!
