You can also soften the grain with Rodinal by using sodium sulfite in
the development mixture. 56 grams of sodium sulfite in 1L of water,
then add Rodinal at 1:50 or 1:100 dilution. It will cost a little bit
of effective film speed, and you'll need to extend processing times
a small amount. I just started playing with this on Minox film and
the results are very encouraging, basically adding 1/2 stop exposure
and extending development 10-20% has improved my Agfapan 100 results
nicely so far. Still high acutance, lovely tonal scale, but a smoother
grain rendition.
