Copying Texture Maps

On 7/9/06 2:56 PM, "Anthony R
In 4.2 I used to copy bump maps (and other textures) from one texture and
pasted in another. I can no longer do that in 5.0.  I've tried and the "paste"
function is dimmed, unless I'm doing something wrong.

Importing Wings model with Colour to Strata

I am using strata 3d cx v 4.2 I believe. I can open the OBJ but still no
color. Do you think it might be a stupid pref. setting?

These instructions are specific to Strata 4.2 and OBJ. Strata 5.0 has more
sophisticated OBJ support..... read on

i'll start with an easy one...
is there a list of specifics that this scripting will do?
and maybe more importantly, what it can't?...

Strata UV Mapping

I am putting together a wish list for updating my software tool box
and I wanted to get some updated information on UV texture mapping
software. I know it has been talked about here but I wanted to see if
anyone knew what the latest scoop was on the topic?. I want to be able
to import a model into Strata and be able to generate a Strata Usable
UV texture file that I can edit with Photoshop. I know I am behind the
curve on this but I have promised myself a G5 Dual Core 2Ghz for
Christmas and I want to try and have everything I need to update ready.

Night time rendering

On Jun 3, 2005, at 4:41 PM, Graeme Mair wrote:
Hi all
Since things are a bit quiet round these parts here's a Strata related question.
In the next two weeks or so I will have to do a night time rendering of a building we are working on. I have to montage the new building into an existing night time context photo and I was wondering how best to go about doing this using Strata and Photoshop.
The boss would like to see the lights inside the building illuminating the existing street and I was wondering if I can use shadow catcher in Strata to do this or is it simpler to fake it in photoshop?

Animation - Timeline

hey there,
having a brain fart, how do you grab all the keyframes and then spread them out further on the timeline so they are still the same distance apart?
Like, I have an animation that last 4 seconds, but want to have it last 6 seconds now, but still keep its timing.
thanks
Christian

Rendering - Shadow Intensity

Hi -
I have a challenge, perhaps there is a suggestion.

I have animated objects that are covered with textures.
They are rotating about a sphere.
There is a single global light acting as a sun.
There is an ambient light set as bright as practical.

My challenge is that the shadows cast by the objects onto the sphere are too strong.
I have tried adding a glow to the sphere, but it washed out it's own shadow as much as the shadows of the objects so that the spere lost it's 3d depth.
I have the sphere's surface texture at 30% diffuse and 100% ambient and while that did a lot to solve the issue, but it is not enough.

I know the objects can have their shadows turned off completely but some shadow is needed.  My question is whether there is a way to setup the textures on the objects so that they will scale/fade back the amount of shadow they cast - like stencil does, but without fading out the objects themselves.

Thanks,
Duke

Stereo Anaglyph Images - How to...

pleased to hear that you enjoyed the anaglyph images! I must admit that at times it is difficult to get the images to behave as well as one would want, as much depends on the dark/light tonal range of the original colour masters as to how well they translate into a red and cyan range of monotones. This almost always varies every time, so not consistent in output, as you may well have noted from my samples.

Anyway, for what it’s worth. I will set out the procedure for you to try out for yourself (Apple Macintosh keys named here, substitute 'CTRL', instead of 'COM', for PC):

Comments:
I was so pleased with this displacement modeling result that I put together this visual tutorial. I am sure if you took more detailed time on your displacement map itself the crimping effect could be very exact!!

Rendering - Remove those splotches

Hi Folks,
I'm getting some splotches in the final pass of my render, I seem to remember this coming up a few weeks back:
My first thought was to increase the front threshold, but going from 16-24 didn't make any difference. Maybe I'm mucking around in the wrong setting.
Can any of you render gurus point me in the right direction?
Thanks much,
Chris
