Importing Wings model with Colour to Strata

I am using strata 3d cx v 4.2 I believe. I can open the OBJ but still no
color. Do you think it might be a stupid pref. setting?

These instructions are specific to Strata 4.2 and OBJ. Strata 5.0 has more
sophisticated OBJ support..... read on

When you export to OBJ from Wings, you will see a box at the end of the line
that lists the Wavefront (.obj) option. When you select the OBJ format,
click on that box at the end of the listing. This will bring up on options
box.

In the options box, select

One group per material

(You may also want to set an export scale value of 72. Setting a scale value
of 72 means one wings unit will equal one Strata inch.)

You may also want to be sure export normals and export UV coordinates are
checked while you are there.

Go ahead and export your model with these settings. Wings should write at
least 2 files

my_model.obj
my_model.mtl

If you have image maps, wings should write them out, too.

You need to keep ALL the files wings writes together in the same folder. The
MTL file tells Strata how to rebuild the colors. It is good practice to
write all the files to a folder specifically for that model.

If you do the above and Strata still doesn’t load the materials, you may
need to look at how you named your material in wings. I do not know if this
is true of 4.2 or not, but some applications will read these names correctly

light_red
LightRed

But cannot read a color named

light red

In other words, the space messes up the MTL read and build. So if you have
errors, check for spaces.

There are other fine things to look at, but try the above first.

Also, try VRML. You may get what you want the first time with it.
