CS 1 to CS 2 upgrade costs
I agree Adobe put a lot into their software, but
I still feel there should
be more
consideration for someone who has bought most of their range of
apps
and most of the updates over someone who
has only ever bought one copy
of
Photoshop.
In
the end, I guess I will have no choice but to pay up, but I'm going
to
wait and see what happens after May,
first.
After some of the comments Jean
made, I took a look at the prices for
all
options in both US and UK Adobe
Stores.
With the exchange rate £ to $ being
1.9+ today, the following comparisons
show
up.
(UK prices in terms of Dollars - no taxes
applied)
Outright purchase of CS2
Premium is $1199 in the US but $1700 in the
UK.....
a 41% increase over US
price
Outright purchase of CS2 Standard is
$899 in the US but $1340 in the UK.....
a 49%
increase over US price
Upgrade CS1-CS2
Premium is $599 in the US but $796 in the UK..... a
45%
increase over US
price
Upgrade CS1-CS2 Standard is $349 in the
US but $617 in the UK..... a 76%
increase
over US price
Upgrade Photoshop-CS2
Premium is $749 in the US but $1074 in the UK.....
a
43% increase over US
price
Upgrade Photoshop-CS2 Standard is $499
in the US but $663 in the UK..... a
32%
increase over US price
How can Adobe
possibly justify this difference?
I'm
going to look into the pros and cons of buying a US version. As far as
I
can see, it is no different from the
International version (ie color rather
than
colour, trash rather than wastebasket, etc.) so there seems
no
justification for anything other than a
minor difference in price due to
exchange
rates.
I suspect that Adobe will stymie
me somewhere - either in the purchase or
the
online
activation!
