Great Glen Run

Ladies & Gents,

The Planning is coming together. We are almost at decision stage , so
detailed below is a rough Itinerary and some questions.

1. Departure
Edinburgh Thursday 8 April 2003 - 18.00hrs
Arrive Hostel Inverness Area 21.00 Hrs

2. Activities
Fri/Sat/Sun - Walk, run, cycle as you wish - see attached sheet for what I
believe are your preferences
Monday - Walk/run/cycle up Ben Nevis - I think Aberdeen might be setting
a
hash up Ben Nevis - interesting concept but no mystery about where one of
the checks will be.

3. Accomodation
Is in hostels at Inverness(Thurs) En route (Fri/Sat), Ft William (Sun).
Hostels are prebooked by Aberdeen. 26 places are provisionally booked.
Aberdeen now need to confirm and pay for this. Once numbers are firmed we
can either adjust our booking or overflow to a nearby B&B.

4. Who Is Going
Aberdeen have 7 going, Edinburgh have 20-25 stated as interested. The
attached sheet lists those who have indicated an interest in going. If you
think there is someone missing from list then please let me know.

5. Transport
The plan was to travel from Edinburgh in one minibus picking up
Glaswegians in Stirling area (transport Glasgow - Stirling by Cramond). Now the max
size minibus we can get on a car licence is I think an 18 seater - but with
bikes and luggage we can probably only get around 12 people in one of these so
we are looking at two minibuses. An alternative that I am considering is
taking one minibus and 2-3 cars up to Inverness and leaving cars in Inverness
until Monday evening. One minibus can service a group of 22 but cannot transport
them all. On route it is unlikely that there will ever be more than a few
in the minibus at any one time so this should work. When we need to transport
all 22 then we can do shuttle run or share with Aberdeen.

6. Cost
The costs are rough at present. Aberdeen are charging £130 per head
including minibus, accommodation, petrol, maps & weekend guide (last year
this was a collector's piece - very impressive joining instructions &
timetable), breakfast food & sandwiches food and a small donation to
Wooden Spoon society (4 Peaks Team nominated charity). Our costs are likely to be
a little higher at around £160 taking in petrol & Edinburgh hire prices.
Budget £160 just now but see below - food

7. Food
Aberdeen 4 Peaks bought food to cover breakfast and lunches on route. A
rota of designated personnel prepared breakfast, washed up, made sandwiches and
tagged the bags. They did a big shop before departure and transported this
on the minibus. Now I think this is a good idea but I don't have time to
either carry out the shopping OR to organise the rota as I am working in
Glasgow 60hrs/week at present. Aberdeen have a secret weapon - Sue who his
known as "Herr Clipboard". She is feared by all (except perhaps Trevor)
and doesn't take no for an answer. We need an equivalent person to manage our
end , delegating duties etc. Can I please have a volunteer (s) to manage
the food process , and a second to manage the driving rota.

8. Driving
The first bus had volunteer drivers in the shape of Val, Anne Marie &
Helen to do driving during Great Glen Walk 3 days (I think we don't need bus
driver on Ben Nevis day as the path is a bit technical with no lay bys). I
am confident that the drive to and from Inverness & Ft. William would
also be covered by others. If we get two minibuses we need further volunteers to drive that minibus.

9. Activities
Please check attached sheet and let me know if I have you down for correct
activity. This is very important if you want to bring a bike as more bikes
= less seats. I need to know what style of bike you have and if it has:
rack, mudguards, quick release wheels.

10. Return
Monday evening arriving back late on around 9.00 - 11.00 evening

11. What You Need to Do Now
