Kirky 10The five of us that did turn up had a great time

fine-tuning for the legs in advance of 10UndertheBen this
weekend.

Subject: [edinburghmtb] Some Mountain-bikers ride the Kirkliston 10 mile Time Trial The excuses were neither manifest nor legion, however they were both surreal and pathetic. MacPuppy - I'm on a plane Paul - It doesn't fit into my training schedule Fiona - It's raining Stuart - It's raining and I have stuff to do Peter - The five of us that did turn up had a great time and surprised ourselves with how we went, in what was a perfect piece of fine-tuning for the legs in advance of 10UndertheBen this weekend. We were very lucky in that it was a fairly still night, and there was not a drop of rain over the entire course. It wasn't easy, 10 mile TT's aren't. The general advice is to "ride hard until you think you are going to hurl, then ride even harder". None of that nonsense for any of us, in fact I don't think we even bothered warming up ! (although I did sneak Pythons on to my bike, and pump them up to 70psi) The times: Graeme Mair put in an excellent 29.55 to take the prize for fastest. Me, Ian Feanney and Graeme Elliot were all around the 30.30 mark, and Les Weston put in the commendable time of 35 mins, especially with his full-face helmet and patented anti-speed device attached to the front of his bike. And a rucksack. This was a very successful night, and there was even talk of making it a regular monthly event, say the first wednesday of every month ? 10 Mile TTs are hard (did I say that already ?) but an excellent way of measuring your fitness progress, and all for £1. Although I can't promise a bottle of Jack Daniels for the winner every time... Helen P.S And Stuart, what happened to (and I believe this is a direct quote) "there is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes" ?? Posted: Fri - June 3, 2005 at 03:12 PM |
