Edinburgh MTB
Quick summary of what we discussed at the
planning session on
Thursday. Thanks to
everyone who came along to this, we covered a
lot of areas and got a lot of plans
together.
Weekend Rides
Calendar:
- Sun Oct 24 Laggan Trails,
nr Newtonmore – Helen and Paul N
- Sat
Oct 31 Pitmedden Night Ride – Auchtermuchty, Fife – Stuart (warning
– could be a bit
exploratory)
- Sun Nov 7 – DHing
at Innerleithen (speak to Paul H if there's space available on the uplift) OR
Pentlands Biggie – having an explore a bit further afield than the Sat AM
rides go. Les
- Sun Nov 14th –
Lowther Hills ride – need to talk to Rik @ Drumlanrig to set this
up.
- Sun Nov 21st – nothing
planned! Eeek!
- Weekend of Sat Nov
27th – Aviemore weekend trip with Helen at the helm. Loads of cool stuff
around there - big days in the hills or cheeky singletrack in Rothiemurchus
forest, take your pick!
- Sun December
5th. Lomond Hills exploration – Paul H will try to tread the fine line
between finding cool stuff and getting
horribly, horribly
lost.
- Sun December 12th –
Dunkeld riding. Craig and Kathryn in
charge.
- Sun December 19th –
Glentress Black Route. The all-comers pace of the slowest ride for the GT Black.
(Stuart)
- Sun Dec 26th and Jan 2nd
– no firm plans for these, post
something up on Yahoo nearer the time and
find someone else trying to burn off excess turkey or escape the
in-laws.
- Sun Jan 9th – Moorfoot
Hills, just SW of Edinburgh. Kathryn in charge for this
one.
- Sun Jan 16th – Mabie
Forest. Richard Dowling is your main man
here.
- Sun Jan 23rd – Gleneagles
exploration. Blame Les if it goes horribly wrong, or buy him a pint if he shows
you something smashing.
- Weekend of
Sat Jan 30th. Lakes weekend. Best done out of season to avoid the hoardes. If
the weather is poo, that just means more time in the teashops. Hurrah! Stuart to
lead the charge on the scone
shopping.
- Weekend in the Peak
District in mid-March – Kathryn to organise
this.
Holidays:
- Possibility
of heading to the far NW for a week in early summer to do some exploring and
ride some known classic
loops.
- Foreign holiday. We've done
Morzine twice so maybe time for a change. Do we save up for a trip to US/
Canada, or go somewhere else in the Alps (Verbier?) or Pyrennes or somewhere
else in Spain? One to think about over the next couple of months
Wednesday night
rides:
- people seemed happy with the 3
weeks at Glentress/ last week of the month elsewhere pattern we've had over the
summer.
- Other places suggestions
included Drumlanrig, Cloish, Pentlands, Innerleithen, Yair. Lots of options
anyway.
Sat morning
rides
- good turnout and rota seems to
be working (thanks to Cliff for sorting that). Seems to be a mix of new and
regular people coming out on
them
- Good spread of routes rather
than the obvious circuit from Bonaly to Clubbiedean, over Maiden's Cleuch and up
Glencorse to Green Cleuch, down Beech Avenue and back via Harlaw and Water of
Leith. We've taken in some of the stuff to the E of that loop (Phantom's Cleuch
and Allermuir direction) plus some cheeky singletrack near existing
routes.
Skills
General
feeling that we don't do enough of this. Tentative ideas to run a skills session
every month and alternate between a group session where we pick each others'
brains and watch/ feedback on stuff, and getting proper, professional tuition
from the likes of Emma and Tracey at the Hub. Main club is having a "skills
push" in all areas so we will key into
that.
Trailbuilding
People
felt we should be more visible on the trailbuilding side of things, e.g.
Glentress Trail Fairies, Drumlanrig trail crew. Les to forward trailfairies
sessions on edinburghmtb list, Lozza to speak to Rik about doing a session in
the spring when his plans get underway.
