Tyre Levers
AY> Never mastered the art. Am almost
defeated by the lengthy battle to get
the
AY> tyre off the rim, let alone back
on again. Have never done it in less
than
AY> half an hour (which can easily be
the difference between making it on
time
AY> to the next control or
not).
AY> It's a helpless female
speaking here, of course - some stereotypes have
just
AY> a grain of truth in them
:-)
Many moons ago, the womenfolk
of western Sheffield used to meet
midweek in
order to ride out into the Peak District en masse -
the
reason being that it took 2 or 3 of us to
get a tyre on and off the
rim, should a
puncture occur -
Then we discovered Var
tyre levers - a standard plastic lever plus
a
lever which looks like a flattened, hooked
tuning fork - I've carried
one ever since and
never bothered about cycling alone - sometimes
a
tyre is awkward but not yet found one which
is impossible -
