I will introduce articles about a road and traffic
with photographs that I've got interested. Since the photographs are taken at the time of family travels etc., I'm looking at only the surface and I may not understand the core of subjects or I have a possibility that I'm making mistakes in the interpretation. ■路側帯の高密度利用 /High density use of road side belt
フランスはビッシリと詰まった路上縦列駐車で有名です。
「PAYANT」というのは有料という意味で、パーキングチケット発給機が歩道にありました。France is famous for the closely packed parallel parking of the roadside.
"PAYANT" means pay parking space, and parking ticket vending machines are seen on sidewalks.二輪車用のスペースには、車止めが建てられて、車が停められないようになっています。
At the space for the two-wheeled vehicles, poles are built to prevent cars come in.
店舗の前には、商業スペースと思われる張出しがあったり、「LIVRAISON」と標示された荷さばきスペースがあります。
荷さばきスペースは、一般の駐車は禁止されているはずですが、しっかり駐車されていました。

As you see, the load space seems to be parked though is prohibited a general parking.

フランスの駅では、自転車がちらほらと見かけられます。
At the platforms in France, some bicycle are seen here and there.
フランスの新幹線「TGV」でも自転車のマークがあり、荷物スペースに自転車を載せられるようになっています。

Bicycles can be put on the luggage space in the train.

パリの地下鉄の一部（1,4,6,11,14号線）の車両は、ゴムタイヤ式になっています。
ゴムタイヤ式は、騒音が少なく乗り心地が良いということですが、最大手のタイヤメーカーであるミシュランの国だからという話もあります。(^^)In Paris the subway car on specific routes(1, 4, 6, 11,14th line) runs with the rubber tyre.
With the rubbuer tyre, the noise is few and it's comfortable to ride.
It may be partly because France has the biggest tire manufacturer Michelin. :-)案内用のレール二本の外側にタイヤが通る帯状の板部分がみられます。

シンガポール都心部のロードプライシングのためのゲートです。
ゲート部分にアンテナが取り付けられているようです。It is a gate for the road pricing of the central Singapore.
It seems that the antenna is attached under the gate.乗ったタクシーについていた車載機です。
一番上にカードを指すようになっていて、その下の液晶部分に料金が表示されます。It is the on-board equipment attached to a taxi.
IC card is adopted to the top and a charge is displayed on the Liquid crystal display under it.ゲートの横に備えられた車種別の料金表です。
車種は8種類に分けられています。
すべてのゲートに表示があるというわけではありませんでした。

The type of a car is divided into eight kinds.
Not all gates have a display.

シンガポールでのクーポンパーキングと記された駐車料金表示の道路標識です。
It is the road sign of the coupon parking charge in Singapore.
駐車しているダッシュボード上に置かれたクーポン。
日付けと駐車開始時間の場所をくり抜いて置いておくようです。
左の装置は、ロードプライシングの車載機です。The coupon placed on the dashboard of a car parked on the street.
The date and parking starting time are indicated as holes.
The equipment of the left is for road pricing.ハンディターミナルを持って、駐車車両のクーポンをチェックしています。

きれいに枠内に並べられていました。

It was finely arranged inside a line.

言葉がわからなくても、また直感的にわかるよう、ほとんどの情報がピクトグラムで表示された標識です。
（1998年夏 オーストラリア／ゴールドコースト）Almost all informations are displayed by the pictogram for an intuitive understanding and even for those who cannot understand language.

よく見ると、どこでもあるように路線が色分けされている他に、進行方向によっても色が変えられています。
通常どちら向きに乗るかは行き先の地名（○○方面など）で判断しますが、地名がわからないところでは、この色分けがとても助かります。
（1999年夏 シンガポール）It is the subway route figure of Singapore.
The route is classified by color, and also the color is changed by the advance direction.
When the name of a place is not known, this classification by color instead of the name of a destinationis is very helpful.
(Summer of 1999, Singapore)ソウルの地下鉄では、路線が色で、駅が番号で表されています。
これで、ハングルが読めなくても、どの駅も似たような英語表記でも、大丈夫です。
（1997年夏 韓国／ソウル）A subway route is expressed with a color and the station is expressed by the number in Seoul.
Even if you cannot read the Hankul alphabet, or if English notations of station names resembles each other, you can get to the destination.

現在地と周辺の施設、そして周辺の地図が表示されています。The sign pole for the pedestrians in Seoul.
The present location and the circumferences and the surrounding maps are displayed on the sign pole.周辺の地図部分をよく見ると、透明のアクリル板に地表面の表示があり、1枚奥に地下鉄を表示するという凝った2重構造になっています。
（1997年夏 韓国／ソウル）On a surrounding map portion, a transparent acrylics board displays of earth surface, and another board in the back displays subways.
(Summer of 1997, South Korea / Seoul)■地域の行事に配慮した道路 /The road which corresponds to the event of an area
大阪市平野区の背戸口地区では、コミュニティ道路などを面的に整備して、歩行者が安心して歩ける街をつくるコミュニティゾーンの整備が進められています。
ところが、背戸口地区では、毎夏にだんじりの山車が引かれます。
コミュニティ道路のクランクなどがあると、山車が通れません。In Setoguchi area in Hirano-ku, Osaka City, traffic calming roads are developed as a zone and pedestrians can walk in comfort.
However, a float of summer festival is pulled in this area.
If there are cranks on roads, a float cannot pass along .そのため、背戸口地区では、車道が狭くなる部分の車止めポールを引き抜きできるようなものにしています。
だんじりの山車が出る時には、ポールは引き抜かれ、その穴にふたがされています。
（1999年夏 大阪市）Therefore, in Setoguchi area, the bumping post poles at a narrowing driveway can be drawn out.
When the float of summer festival starts, poles are drawn out and the hole is covered.
