These are pictures of my young Fire belly toads right before receiving their very first dose of Nekton R, a vitamin supplement and color enhancer for canaries. You can see that their stomachs are yellowish gray. Bombina orientalis get their orange stomachs from the insects that they eat in the wild. In captivity, it is necessary to mimic this by adding the color enhancer. Paprika is sometimes used as a color enhancer. It is fed to crickets and the crickets are fed to frogs. It takes several months before the toads start to look like a B. orientalis after 1 feeding with Nekton R. See the next set of pictures to see their tummies start to turn orange.
