 兩方設計公司 Square 2 Design
9/22日參訪了位於三藩市的SQUARE 2 DESIGN.
兩方設計公司是由Eddie Lee(李慶生)先生於1991年成立的以平面, CI為主要承接案子的設計公司, 最近最知名的案子應該是北京2008年奧運的CI 設計,公司位於市內的Third St.辦公室的地點在海港旁邊, 座落的那棟大樓之前應該是貨櫃上下的大樓, 後來因為海運漸漸的轉移到三藩市附近的OAKLAND所以大樓內變成了一些公司的辦公室, 裡面也有一些設計公司跟Production House, Photographic Studio等等.
兩方設計公司裡面大概有兩個設計師(Eddie Lee and Min Wang)跟一個Production Designer,還有一個Project Manager. 當初執行北京奧運CI設計的林先生(不好意思我忘記全名)已經回北京成立一個美術學院.
Eddie Lee以及Min Wang都是耶魯大學School of art畢業, 在訪談中了解, 他們兩位受到他們的老師保羅藍得(Paul Rand)的影響頗大, Paul Rand知名的設計案例如IBM的LOGO, 由於受到德國包浩斯的影響頗深厚, 在設計上可以看到相當注重設計本身的機能性(form follow the function, 還有易讀性以及簡潔(Less is more) 在辦公室內可以看到許多Paul Rand所設計的海報, 由此可知影響之深

 Square 2 在接到設計案的時候, 主要會有下列的作業流程.
1. Present a proposal
After an initial meeting to discuss your communication needs, square two will submit to you detailed proposal or a comprehensive action plan, including fee estimates and a rough schedule. We'll ask for your questions and comments, and we'll review the proposal with you.
2. Build our knowledge base
Square Two will interview your executives, review your existing materials, and study relevant market factors. This helps us understand your company, industry, product, and services; it also helps elicit your own aesthetic sense, so that we can turn your aesthetic into effective design.
3. Make marketing and design recommendations
Using the date we've gathered, Square Two will develop and present several design directions for reaching your audience. Depending on your needs, you might see concepts for corporate identity, product packaging. marketing collateral, site plans or sample website layouts.We will discuss the reasoning behind the concepts, as well as their potential short- and long-term effects on your brand image, so that you can chose a creative direction.
4. Execute creative design
Once you've chosen a creative direction, we'll roll up our sleeves at Square Two and efficiently execute all elements of the assignment. We'll coordinate design, writing, photography, illustration, and production activities. We can also integrate web site services, including programing, debugging, ISP selection, and site launching. For your convenience and ongoing review, we'll post work in progress on a password-protected client access area of our website.
5. Provide ongoing support
Once you've begun working with Square Two, you'll always have our support behind you. As time goes on, we can back up your new corporate identity system with templates and usage guidelines, maintain or expand your website, create additional brochures and date sheets, give your logo a facelift-whatever you need won the road to keep your image going strong.
