The Episcopal Center @ UGA

Greetings web surfers,

Welcome to the Episcopal Center Website.  I am glad you made it here. Feel free to look around and offer feedback.  It's what I've been doing for my four plus years here, too. I'm Daniel B. Brown- aka frDann - Chaplain to the Episcopal students in Athens, Vicar of the Chapel of St. Mary, the Virgin, and Director of the Episcopal Center at UGA. I came in June of 2003 to these honored positions by way of ten years in ordained ministry, serving parishes in Augusta, Clarkesville, and Douglasville. My M.Div., awarded in May of 1993, is from the School of Theology of the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.

Prior to my seminary studies I spent most of my post-college (Furman '76) days living and training and racing as a competitive distance runner from the "up-country" of SC and mountains of NC. 1979 found me moving to California where I continued to compete into my thirties, running things like a 2:26 marathon and a 1:54.6 800m. While I was racing I taught high school, coached track and field athletes of all ages and managed a sporting goods store. I had plenty of other jobs before, in and after those days, including short order breakfast cook, shipping and handling clerk for an ornamental metals fabricator, handyman and dishwasher for a bed and breakfast, employee health and fitness supervisor for an engineering firm, after-school program coordinator at a child development center, and perhaps the best of all, I was the teddy bear mascot at a children's hospital.

I really enjoy playing with my kids; David, a sixteen-year-old self-professed "techie" and Junior Olympian and fourteen-year-old Mary Carson, a strong saxophonist and current chaplain to the Brown family. My wife Cindy Carson-Brown, is an MSW, and has worked in one of Athens' dialysis clinics. We both enjoy trying new restaurants and raising our nearly 6-year-old Bichon Frise, Lily.
