Below is the text of a recent email from the Diocese regarding DYVE (Discerning Young Vocations Experience) starting back up. As information comes to the Chaplain's office we will post it here.

As you may know, DYVE is going to "restart" in a revised form this fall. We will top out at the age of 25, and take students in college as young as sophomores if they can make the commitment. It will be a monthly Saturday, with a few Sundays thrown in for a bit of "on the street" immersion and probably a visitation with the bishop. It will be structured in a combination teaching/reflection model.
We would like to start out with an "information day" on Saturday, September 19th. There's no commitment necessary to come to it; we want to give people who moight want to participate a real experience of what it will be like, and then, at the end of that day either decide to do the simpler application and get us a few references or to wait until next year, etc. We will also be changing the evaluation structure some, as well as follow up and continuing mentoring for those who "go forward" towards seminiary, all of which will be part of what they hear about at the exploratory day. I will be one of the facilitators for this first year of the new program, and will have two able, talented, and discerning young seminarian/clergy types facilitating as well.
There's no perfect date to do this, I know, and September 19th is not a ton of notice (it will be 10:00 to 3:00 or so, at Cathedral), but some parent weekends appear to be September 26th, so I know that is out, and October doesn't get much better.
So, several questions.
1) If you have been working with anyone at all that you think might be interested, please give me their contact info so I can send an invitation. Again, this is an invitation to spend a day experiencing what DYVE will be like and learning more, it isn't a commitment on his/her part to the whole 9 months.
2) Do you need further info or want to talk before encouraging someone to attend? Please email me and we can set up a time to talk on the phone or in person.
Thanks so much, and I look forward to hearing from you!
Peace,
Alicia+

Vocational Discernment

Vocational Discernment in the Diocese of Atlanta

Discerning the ordained ministry
The call to ministry originates in the context of a parish or campus community. It is expected that those interested in the diocesan-sponsored discernment process for ordained ministry will have engaged in significant ministry and conversation in their communities of worship. Those considering a call to ordained ministry are encouraged to engage in conversation with their parish rectors or campus chaplains, and study the information in our updates.

The Rev. Alicia Schuster Weltner, canon for Congregational Development & Ministry, directs the programs for exploring ordained vocations to the priesthood and diaconate in the Diocese of Atlanta, in cooperation with the bishop and the Commission on Ministry. Interviews with Canon Weltner of those who are considering applying are generally held in the two-month period before applications are accepted. Application deadlines for each process are announced to all rectors in advance.
For general information or assistance, please contact the assistant for vocational discernment,
