The BMW CSLs of Luigi Racing came first, second and third in the ETCC round at Enna on Sunday, with the older 1976 car of Martino Finotto and Carlo Facetti leading from start to finish.
Second, and only 1.37 minutes behind at the end of the 102 lap - 500 km race round the shores of Lake Pergusa in Sicily, were Belgians Jean Xhenceval and Pierre Dieudonné, while third and a lap behind was the other Luigi crew of Claude de Wael and Eddy Joosen.

These three crews also dominated practice, with Facetti capturing pole by 0.1s from Dieudonné and Joosen 0.2s slower. Fourth for half the race, which was the fourth round of the ETCC Championship, was the Eggenberger BMW 320 shared by Dieter Quester and Jürgen Reinke. However, their car was then afflicted by a fuel pressure problem, and though the fuel pump was changed, they dropped out soon afterwards with a blown head gasket, leaving fourth place to the class winning VW Scirocco of Willi Bergmeister and Helmut Henzler. Quester, incidentally, should have been racing one of the Heyco BMW 320s with Walter Brun, but Brun rolled it at high speed during practice, wrecking the car and breaking his collar bone, an arm and some ribs. Fifth place fell to the Scirocco of Anton Stocker and Jörg Siegrist, while Amerigo Bigliazzi and Spartaco Dini were sixth in the former’s’ 2-litre Alfetta Coupe.

Both Alpina and Jaguar gave the race a miss, the latter testing the new wheel flanges.
