The season opener was cold and wet on Saturday, but on race day the sun shone and all looked forward for another season of Dutch racing.

Group 1 under 1300 cc
The “ Simca class” got away badly in 1975. Right after the start, front-runners van Dongen, de Vos and Derr all were involved in an accident, van Dongen accusing team-mate Lammers for pushing him off. Teamboss Slotemaker was not amused at all and threw van Dongen out of the team after the race. Hofstede in Lammers’ 1974 car won the race, Lammers himself second.

Group 1 over 1300 cc
Only two contenders for overall honours: Frankenhout in the Commodore, Slotemaker in the Camaro - just like last year. A bad start for the Camaro, and Frankenhout took the lead, Stuckenbrock (1600 Toyota!) was second and Slotemaker third. But the Camaro was way too fast, and in typical Slotemaker style the race looked exciting - until Slotemaker roared away in the last lap. Rosman won the 2500 class very lonely, in the 1600 cc class there was more excitement: winner Zoon’s Alfa did not survive the technical inspection after the race, and Servé Maassen from Limburg nearly rolled his Sunbeam Avenger each lap at Hunzerug corner. A puncture in the last lap dropped him down the order.

Group 2 and 4
Huub Vermeulen was the favourite here; new boy Kluit (with experience in Simca group 1 and a few races in an Abarth) was not expected to impress too much with the fearsome ex-Akersloot Capri. Siewertsen turned up on surprisingly race day with his 1974 championship-winning car; after Saturday practice, he asked his sponsor if he could race his old car. Nobody knew where it was, until it was found amidst a pile of Jeans in his sponsor’s warehouse. He had to start from behind, with Deen and his Corvette only a few rows in front of him - Deen had practice the beast with slicks on a wet track...
Vermeulen took the lead comfortably, until his engine blew just before the finish line in lap 14. Siewertsen roared past, got the flag to his surprise (the race was expected to be 15 laps long!) and won, Vermeulen pushing his car over the line in second. To his bemusement, brother Loek slowly passed the finish line on the opposite side of the track, his Simca stranded with a puncture.
Of course, Huub was not allowed to push his car there - but the race director more or less inspired him to do so. In the end, Huub’s last lap was disallowed and he was classified third - a wise decision.
The other classes had less firework: Tjan won the 1300 cc class after van Oorschot had retired, new boy Hans van der Beek won the 1150 class, and old boy Kok won the 1000 cc class.
