Class A-B
Andy Rouse's Dolomite Sprint led the second Southern Organs race from start to finish.
Tom Walkinshaw's Escort was second for the first few laps until John Hine's Dolomite overtook him and livened the race up by setting of after Rouse. He caught him comparatively easily, but making a challenge for the lead was a different thing altogether and he stayed a close second until the 17th lap when gremlins in the electrics set the car spluttering and left Rouse with a safe win on his hands. Much of the interest in the race was now centred on a battle for fourth place between three more Dolomites and an Escort and when the rain came bucketing down after 19 laps things got extremely hairy. Brian Muir was just keeping the second Shellsport car ahead of Roger Bell's Dolomite, with Barrie Williams playing the "if you can't beat them, join them" game having been asked to drive Martin Thomas' Dolomite following the withdrawal of Mazda through cash problems. Allan Wilkinson's Escort made up the quartet and place changing was fast and furious for much of the race. On the 12th lap Wilkinson dived up the inside of the Dolomites in a suicidal manoeuvre at the hairpin which necessitated using Roger Bell as a brake. Unfortunately for Wilkinson the Escort suffered most in the collision as a body panel bent onto a tyre and he was quickly out of the race.
There was more excitement to come though as Bell's brakes burned themselves out coming into the hairpin for the 22nd time and he shot helplessly into the back of Muir. Both cars cannoned of the side walls and each other before coming to rest in a rather sorry-state, but both drivers were luckily unhurt. And somehow a gap opened up in the middle of the accident through which Williams passed unscathed and there he was in third place! Two laps later the rain drowned the electrics on Walkinshaw's car and so Williams took a surprised second place at the finish. Win Percy's Toyota staged a terrific dice with Bernard Unett's Avenger for the small class, but when the rain started Unett got the upper hand and pulled clear to finish third overall and win the class.

Class C-D
Stuart Graham's Brut Camaro led the first Southern Organs saloon race from start to finish, with Richard Lloyd providing much of the interest by finishing second, although not in his usual Simoniz car. That had run a bearing on its engine during practice and as they didn't have a spare engine Lloyd managed to persuade Malcolm West to let him borrow his car to keep up his championship hopes. Vince Woodman looked a safe second until a puncture brought his Camaro into the pits after 21 laps. Brian Pepper's General Relays Camaro took over the position, but Lloyd was now up to third place and a sudden shower of rain in the closing laps was all he needed to help him move past Pepper and finish second. Tony Shaw's Camaro beat Jon Fletcher's for fourth place and Gordon Spice's Capri won its class in sixth place. John Handley's Opel was second in the class, while Shaun Jackson's Hammonds Opel dropped out with no gears.
