Race 1
The first Southern Organs race was for classes B & D. Chris Craft substituted for the injured Gordon Spice in one of the Wisharts Capris, while Barrie Williams had his first-ever outing with the Samurai Toyota originally entered for Brian Cutting, and trouble at Telford meant that the three Halesfield Motors Avengers for Bernard Unett, Jenny Birrell and Graham Birrell did not appear.
John Handley was on pole with the DOT Opel Commodore, with Shaun Jackson's similar Hammonds Sauce/Ottershaw Motor Company car alongside. Chris Craft and Win Percy in the faster of the Samurai Celicas shared the second row and there were only nine cars altogether, neither class having a full entry.
Handley's Opel had the best of the start from Jackson, Percy, Craft and Bill Gubelmann in the second Wisharts Capri. Round the back of the circuit Opel collaboration broke down, as Jackson punted Handley into one of the corners. Then followed a few unhappy seconds for Handley as first the fuel lines were damaged by the impact and then - separately - the rotor arm broke!
Jackson took over the lead, and by the end of the opening lap had a 2s lead over Percy. The order behind the Toyota was Craft, Gubelmann, Stan Clark, Tony Dron, the Penthouse Racing Alfa Romeos in fifth and sixth soon to start suffering from overheating. Perhaps the tighter-than-usual circuit was taking its toll, because Craft snapped a half-shaft leaving the hairpin on lap three and Gubelmann went out with the same trouble 13 laps later. Craft had in any case been given a hard time of it by Percy, who leaned the Celica fairly severely against the Capri at Left-hander during the early jockeying for position. Jackson's lead lasted until lap 10, when he picked up a rear tyre puncture and dropped to third, retiring next time round. At much the same time Tony Dron took his wildly overheating Alfa Romeo into the pits, and soon headed it for the paddock. When Gubelmann disappeared from second place, Percy had a 20s lead over Stuart Rolt, who was being pressed by Barrie Williams as the Samurai recruit settled down with his new charge. Rolt seemed to escape for a few laps, but then Williams began to reel him in again and stopped the race from being a complete procession by moving into second place as the Capri slowed on lap 24. Stan Clark persevered with his red-hot Alfa until the last but one lap, slowing to allow the leader to lap him and then parking by the track side after crossing the line. He was obviously groggy as he climbed out, and only a marshal's restraining arm appeared to stop him from stumbling onto the track as the cars behind came into their slowdown lap. Only four cars finished.

Race 2
As the other two classes gathered for the second of the Dicksons of Perth Trophy races for the Southern Organs championship, local drivers were wondering whether this time the visiting cars would offer action to match the £1,210 total prize fund. The answer was no, as the sight of the eight-car grid suggested.
Vince Woodman in the 5.8 Camaro led away, followed by Andy Rouse in the Dolomite Sprint, Roger Bell in a similar car, Stuart Graham in the 7.4 Camaro, which must have been a real handful at Ingliston, John Handley and Brian Muir in the Dolomite Sprints, Alan Foster's RS2000 which, until three days before the meeting, was to be driven by Tom Walkinshaw, who went to Thruxton instead, and Jon Fletcher's Camaro.
By the end of the first lap the order was Woodman from Rouse, Graham, Bell, Muir, Handley, Foster and Fletcher. Graham tried hard to get to grips with Rouse, and on lap six made to pass on the outside into the hairpin. At the moment of truth Graham reckoned there was no way out except into the armco, and he half-spun the big car to go in backwards, "the less expensive way".
That was really that, as the world seemed full of Triumph Dolomites, although Woodman was coping with an almost total lack of brakes and could be heard thumping down the gearbox into the hairpin. Then Foster moved ahead of Handley, whose car was being carefully looked at by marshals as it appeared to be about to shed part of its exhaust system.
