Race 1
The smaller capacity Southern Organs race nearly lost both its star turns at the end of practice when Andy Rouse spun his Broadspeed Dolomite and collected Barrie Williams' Arian Mazda. After a lot off hard graft, a very battered Triumph came to the line for Rouse to claim his pole position, but sadly Whizzo could not fill his second place slot. Completing the depleted front row, and easily quickest of the 1600s, was Win Percy's Samurai-prepared Toyota Celica GT. Rouse went to the fore from the word go and held on until he saw the chequered flag, but this time it was a hard won victory. His car was still badly battered, and the opposition got a lot closer than usual. For a lap it was Broadspeed team-mate Roger Bell who filled his mirrors, but then Allan Wilkinson moved into second place with his Escort RS2000 and at once set about Rouse's lead. He looked like getting it, too, but coming out of Bottom Bend for the fifth time he spun, and very nearly collected Tom Walkinshaw's RS as he slewed back across the road. Restarting, Wilkinson climbed back to fifth before a broken gear-lever forced him out late in the race.

Percy was in a class of his own, striding away with the 1600 laurels with little difficulty, and setting a new class record. Brian Cutting made it a 1-2 for the team, but his was a more entertaining race, for he had Stan Clark's Alfa Romeo in his slipstream right to the line.

Race 2
Stuart Graham was fastest in the tiny practice period for larger touring cars contesting this round of the Southern Organs Championship. Alongside Graham's 7.4-litre Camaro was Vince Woodman's similarly-engined Camaro, while on the outside John Handley's Opel Commodore headed the 4-litre times. When Graham lit out in front from the line, it looked like another of his familiar walkovers, but as he powered onto Top Straight for the sixth time the Faberge Camaro was obliterated by a vast spume of impenetrable smoke.

This left Woodman with a fairly comfortable run to the flag, his VMW Motors/Esso Uniflo car winning for the second time in nine days. Richard Lloyd's Simoniz car was 3.2s down at the flag, but was still over half a minute clear of Al Cowin's smoky third-placed Camaro.

In the battle for the 4-litre class that followed Cowin over the line, Handley's DOT Commodore defeated the rival Opels of Shaun Jackson and Peter Hanson by a few scant lengths after a duel from start to finish.
