The second round had an entry which was a bit reduced. BMW Motorsport had trouble preparing for F2, Rally Acropolis and DRM and only sent a single works car. Ford entered two cars, of which one was demolished in practice (following a slow puncture) - so a single works car at the start here too. But BMW had its usual support cars with Schnitzer (second in practice, after the Capri) and Alpina (fourth behind the Motorsport car). Brambilla was, again, the first away and had a close battle for the lead with the Capri. But after one hour, Brambilla came in, waving with the gear lever. Shortly afterwards, Quester came in, and had to retire. The theoretical threat of the Alpina car came to an end when Hezemans smashed into the barriers trying to avoid a crashed BMW 2002. He could continue bust lost six laps in the pits. Brambilla, following Hezemans in the same incident, punctured his tires. Halfway through the race the Capri was still in the lead, second was the 2-litre GS 2002 of Basche/Menzel. Though the car could not keep this position to the finish, they still lead the first Alfa Romeo GTAm three laps. |
