Few spectators but thrilling races and a spectacular crash were the keywords for this race. In the chicane just before start and finish, Rummel’s engine exploded, the car slid on its own oil, crashed into the barriers of the pit entrance, where the car became airborne, rolled and came to a standstill next to the race control tower. Rummel was unhurt. Fire extinguishers were used to such an extent that poor van Bonn crashed his car into the pit barrier as well - he could not see where he was going...
Ridder had been in the lead this race, but his engine expired, leaving the win to Lips.
A class of his own was Tubbesing: his NSU TTS was on two wheels in the chicanes most of the time, he finished a staggering 102 seconds ahead of his next rival. Peter Otto retired in the 2000 cc class, with Hegels winning.
