Now with five consecutive outright and class victories to his credit, Frank Gardner had little trouble in maintaining his stranglehold on the RAC Saloon Car Championship with a win at the Palace, beating the much improved GP Speed Shop entered 5.7-litre Chevrolet Camaro driven by David Piper, while Chris Craft in the Broadspeed Escort TC drove particularly well to finish third overall and score an easy class victory. The second Alcoa 25-lap Container Systems Trophy race was for the under 1300cc cars, sub-divided at 1000cc, and the overall winner was John Fitzpatrick in the Broadspeed 1300GT Escort, who had had no difficulty in staving off the Equipe Arden Mini driven so spiritly by Gordon Spice. Bill McGovern in the Bevan 1-litre Imp again won the little class, but it wasn't quite so easy this time. There were some good dices in both races and all the old Gp5 records were smashed. |
