The popular Saloon car race started with a battle of the Jaguars; Salvadori, McLaren, Parkes and Hill. On lap 3, Parkes took the lead from Salvadori, who followed closely. Harper had taken the lead in the 1600 cc class; Summers, in a Rapier too, fell back behind the Riley pair of Lewis and Hutcheson.
Whitmore dominated the 1000 cc class, while Carlisle and Elford had a race-long battle for second, which was won by Elford two laps from the end.
McLaren dropped back after spinning at Esso, Hill chased Parkes and Salvadori - Parkes seemed certain of victory after a fierce battle with Salvadori, until he came into the pits two laps from the end with a silent engine. So Salvadori won, ahead of Hill and McLaren with Harper fifth overall.
