Orvieto

duomo creast
duomo Orvieto became my favorite place as it was beautiful and everything just went right. We accidently drove into the heart of the old town, and discovered a parking lot right next to the cathedral that actually had one space left. The day was spectacularly clear and lovely, and the church was over-the-top wonderful. Inside we found the Chapel of the Madonna of San Brizio, largely done by Luca Signorelli. One of my missions on this trip was to see as much of his work as I could. The Chapel was quite simply unbelievably beautiful. We went to Ed's second choice restaurant for lunch, which was fabulous. Curate's sauce, anyone? Ken and I strolled to the literal edge of town, a cliff face dropping off to a spectacular country side. Along the way I got some good photos too. The Perugia bell tower, included here for comparison, struck me as very funny--notice the neighbors have found it the perfect place for their TV antennas.
