In various places throughout Mac OS X Power Tools, I mentioned additional, related content available from the book's website. This page provides you with access to that content, via the links below. (Links will open within this frame; to get back to this page, click the "Online Content" link to the left, the "back" button in your web browser, or the "Return to Online Content" link at the bottom of each page.)
This Online Bonus Chapter can be downloaded via this link. (Note that this file is truly a supplement to Chapter 5, and won't make much sense unless you've first read Chapter 5.) It's in PDF format, which means it can be opened in OS X's Preview application or using Adobe's Acrobat Reader; if you have the excellent PDF Browser Plugin installed, it may be viewable right in your browser window. (Note: the current version of Apple's Safari browser has trouble with some FTP servers; if Safari doesn't work for you, you may need to use a different browser--such as Camino, iCab, OmniWeb, Opera, or Internet Explorer--or an FTP client to download the file. I'm sorry for the inconvenience; this is a known bug in Safari that will hopefully be fixed soon.)
Online Content
Online Supplement to Chapter 5
In the book, I mentioned that an online supplement, Furthering Finder Functionality -- additional content from Chapter 5 that wouldn't fit in the print version of the book -- would be available from this site. Unfortunately, the publisher of Mac OS X Power Tools has decided against producing this supplement. I apologize for this, and offer a substitute: the Online Bonus Chapter from the First Edition of the book. For the most part, this version is comparable to the version I had hoped to provide for the Second Edition and is compatible with Mac OS X 10.3 -- just be sure that if you decide to use any of the third-party utilities mentioned in the Supplement you first check the developer's website to make sure the utility is compatible with the version of Mac OS X installed on your Mac.
Online Appendix
You can download the Online Appendix, "A Tale of Two Systems," here or here (PDF file). This appendix covers many of the differences between OS X and OS 9 and helps ease the transition. It also provides tips for those who frequently switch back and forth.
