Villa Santa Maria is nowadays well
known for its ancient Cooking School. The tradition goes
back to the 15th Century, when Villa was run by the
Neapolitan Caracciolo Family.
Since then, Villa Santa Maria’s chefs travelled all over the
world exporting the art of cooking. The heritage of this great
science can be still enjoyed nowadays in famous hotels, restaurants
and cafes in every continent and of course during the yearly
Villa’s Cooking Festival, every
October.

Villa Santa Maria e’ stata resa nota grazie alla sua Scuola
di Cucina. La tradizione si tramanda dal 15 secolo, quando Villa
era dominio della Famiglia Caracciolo di
Napoli.
Da
allora gli Chef di Villa hanno esportato la loro arte culinaria in
tutto il mondo. Ancora oggi cuochi e maîtres
di Villa
Santa Maria prestano la loro arte nei migliori Ristoranti, ed
Alberghi di ogni continente. Potrete gustare i loro piatti
prelibati durante la famosa Festa dei Cuochi che si svolge ogni
anno a Villa Santa Maria, nel mese di
ottobre.

It all started in 1560, in his
Castle in Villa Santa Maria, when Ferrante Caracciolo organized a
cooking school. This was the very first cooking school ever
recorded in the history of the Italian Peninsula.

Tutto inizio' nel
1560, nel Castello di Villa Santa Maria, quando Ferrante Caracciolo
organizzo' una Scuola di Cucina. Questa fu la prima Scuola di
Cucina riportata su documenti scritti nella storia della Penisola
Italiana.

Caracciolo, the Host
Prince Ferrante Caracciolo was the
Lord of Villa Santa Maria (and father of the Saint Francesco
Caracciolo). While living in Villa Santa Maria, he gave numerous
gourmand parties in his castle.
These parties attracted aristocrats
throughout the kingdom of Naples. The wonderful experiences and
reputation of his cooks spread
rapidly.
Since then, many nobles families
started requesting & recruiting cooks from Villa Santa Maria.
Noble lifestyles made having a cook from Villa Santa Maria
something to be proud of.

l'Ospite
Il Principe Ferrante
Caracciolo era il Signore di Villa Santa Maria (e padre di San
Francesco Caracciolo, nato anche egli a Villa Santa Maria). Nel suo
dominio di Villa Santa Maria, Ferrante organizzò numerosi banchetti
per i suoi ospiti.
A questi banchetti venivano invitate le famiglie aristocratiche del
Regno di Napoli. La fama dei suoi convivi si sparse molto
velocemente, come altrettanto quella sei suoi cuochi.
Da quel momento, molte famiglie nobili iniziarono a
richiedere al Principe Caracciolo i suoi cuochi di Villa Santa
Maria.
