My favorite reflexology thoughts
The foot is a sensory organ
The foot is a sensory organ...
The idea that the foot is a sensory organ
opens up a lot of possibilities. For one thing it means that you can fashion the
messages you want to feed in. Pressure, stretch, movement, vibration, heat, cold
and even the scratch reflex all effect the operating tempo. You can use the foot
to input messages which shift the operating mode of the body and change the tone
overall of the body. It could mean in the future that we "stress proof" the body
on a routine basis.
It also means you can "smarten up" the feet.
Feet have been blinded by shoes which present a boring environment. Barefooters
have contend this for years. Are we sensory isolated from our environment and
deprivation is the result?
Do we need
to develop "Disneylands" for our feet to not just stimulate them but to provide
the variety they crave? Look at the recent results of the study from Oregon
Research Institute. It found that seniors walking on the mats could lower blood
pressure, reduce pain and get a handle on their balance.
Could we lower health care problems
and costs in mass by installing as they have in Asia reflexology pathways? They
are located in parks and are even being installed in spas and condos as
attractions. There are many varieties and approaches. Some have been
scientifically tested.
The foot as a
sensory organ opens up the possibility of new and old technologies. New
technologies would explore using high tech equipment to measure such things as
blood flow and the apply a program of pressure, stretch, movement and so forth
to alter the functioning of that foot to effect the rest of the body.
Could a "smart shoe" be on the
horizon?
