| I've posted photographs and a brief report on our recent trip to the World Cycling Championships in Hamilton, Ontario. |
|
My Palmares, if it can be called such, primarily involved a series of citizen's races scattered throughout the Finger Lakes area. Most of the races have long since disappeared, victims of spiraling insurance costs, logistical difficulties or waining numbers as road biking slumped in popularity during the early 1990s.
These races provided an encouraging environment for young riders. Todd Sheske and Jon Dechau, possibly the two dominant riders in the Rochester, NY area, both participated in a number of these events. Riders varied from people on ancient Schwin Sprints to competetive USCF racers. I've included brief descriptions of the courses based on race literature and my own admitedly hazy recollections. This is the closest thing to a tribute that I can cobble together for a series of great but defunct events.
I how have a page describing a number of these races. You can also connect to the page by clicking on linked events.
