The base is 1/2" plywood over a framework of 2x4's. There will be hidden cutouts to allow access to far reaches. The platform is 30" off the floor. I picked this height as the best viewing angle. The design was done with pencil and paper. At this stage I am in the process of confirming the paper design by laying out track and accessories. I am thinking about ways to get the design plan on the web site.

Looking from the head of the stairs towards the main industrial complex and the Portland yard. Note the double mains allowing load/unload log and coal operations while other trains can bypass. Station area towards left (where the station platforms are) will be two elevations.
Opposite view looking back towards the stairs and the Winter Park yard.
The Winter Park yard. Note that this stage of development does not reveal elevations. Some of the track in the distance will be descending from the station level while others will be ascending to the top level.

The Power Bank is ready. I anticipate 8 to 10 power blocks to the layout.

Sept. 9, 2002 - the roadbed for the Winter Park Yard is laid down. The yard will be my test bed for wiring techniques.
