A Meaningful Change

Budweiser Desert Camo Car To Honor Troops This Weekend

You may need to look a little closer to find the No. 8 Budweiser machine during the Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway Sunday evening. The iconic red paint scheme is being replaced this Memorial Day weekend with a special desert camouflage look, honoring our troops around the globe.

Budweiser will donate proceeds from the sale of the collectible diecast camo cars to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF), which provides full-ride college scholarships to surviving dependents of Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps special operations personnel killed in combat or training missions, and immediate financial assistance to special operations personnel severely wounded in the global war on terror.  More than 700 dependents currently benefit from the efforts of the SOWF.

"Budweiser is very careful and thoughtful about changing the look of that red car. Each time they do, it has a meaningful component to it. This one is really special to me and a lot of others because it recognizes the troops that protect us around the world," said Dale Earnhardt Jr., driver of the No. 8 Budweiser car. "Budweiser has a long history of supporting our military, and it means a lot to me and to the team to carry the camouflage look in the 600."

For more than 26 years, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation has provided college scholarship grants for tuition, books, fees, room and board to surviving children of special operations personnel killed in combat or training missions. The SOWF has nearly 700 children in its program, and provided $1.5 million in college scholarship grants, educational, financial aid and family counseling for 109 students who attended 73 colleges and universities in 2006.  With an estimated 120-125 students eligible for college each year, the Foundation's estimated financial need through 2018 is nearly $60 million.  For more information, visit www.specialops.org.

The Budweiser team will also carry a special red, white and blue paint scheme during the July 4 weekend at Daytona International Speedway. Budweiser will also donate proceeds from the sales of collectible merchandise of that car to SOWF.

See many more photos of both cars and learn more about the entire program here.

P.S.: If anyone sees Humpy Wheeler this weekend, ask why he is so vehemently opposed to this paint scheme running at his track.
