| Kudos to Honda, whose F1 car will carry no corporate logos, but rather an image of the earth to promote MyEarthDream.com. The program promotes conservation and aims to raise awareness of environmental issues around the world. Well done. |

We've had a variety of suggestions for what we should call the Car o' Tomorrow when it hits the track in Bristol in a few weeks, thus becoming the Car o' This Weekend.
First off, I am 100% supportive of any effort to make the cars safer for the drivers. I applaud those efforts. However, race cars should be SEXY BEASTS, and should inspire awe and admiration from spectators. This car is a failure in this area. This was an opportunity to start with a clean sheet of paper, involve the best minds in the business and create a car that truly represents the best ideas and design concepts for today and the future. This was truly a wasted opportunity.
But, we're stuck with it. So, we need to come up with a name to reflect its attributes.
As of now, I am leaning toward one of two choices: "CALHOUN," named for the Agajanian/Willard Battery Special that won the 1963 Indianapolis 500 with Parnelli Jones (father of P.J. Jones for you newcomers). It was a beautiful car and looks as modern now 40+ years later as the box-on-wheels C o' T does.
My other pick? The "HALF NELSON," in honor of former NASCAR official Gary Nelson, who headed the original conception of the car following the death of Dale Earnhardt. |
