We probably shouldn't embarrass Driver 8 like this, but I couldn't resist... it's just too damn funny to keep on the hard drive forever without sharing.
Below are the links to the "before" and "after" from Dale Jr's pre-race interview on Saturday night's Performance Racing Network's broadcast from Bristol. Thanks to producer Alicia Lingerfeldt and the guy who hits the seven-second "dump" button.
Disaster averted.
IOWA: We apologize to any fans or media who believed they were going to get an autograph or media session with Dale Jr. today during what was supposed to be a closed test session at Iowa Speedway. Seems the ol' promoter double-dipped by charging the teams to test, then sold tickets to the fans and god-knows-what other promises to the local media. And all without asking anyone at DEI or JR Motorsports.
The final straw was when the promoter hounded Driver 8 all day before asking him to do a burnout for those who paid to get in. You can be assured he was chewed a new one and likely would not have offered to pay to rebuild an engine if the team had agreed to the lame-brained idea.
Dale Jr. is a good guy. He'll bend-over backwards for most if asked respectfully. Sadly, in this case, someone over-promised and then Dale Jr. ends up looking like the asshole. And a promoter goes home tonight much richer. Wonder how well he will sleep?
