The Story Behind the Topeka Story

Some of you may know I spent the formative days of my racing career at Heartland Park Topeka, working for Bill Kentling, a man who still is a great advisor, friend and mentor (upon his insistence, of course...).

Bill and I laughed about Dale Jr. and Rick Hendrick discussing the impact of their meeting in Topeka many years ago, and also laughed about how much of that weekend is not known to the public. It would probably fill a chapter of a book. (note to self: hey... that's a good idea.) Check out Rick Dean's column from the Topeka Capital-Journal with a small part of the rest of the story.

Oh - and according to TV Guide - NASCAR has...

G O N E W I L D ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

This is the 13th TV Guide cover for Junior.

Actually, the cover makes sense, because one year ago, TV Guide diagnosed NASCAR with a case of Dale Jr. "Night Fever," so it seems the fever has caused the entire sport to go wild. But - in correct Larry Mac parlance - shouldn't it read "NASCAR's Done Gone Wild?" Just a thought.
