DALE EARNHARDT JR. FENDS OFF POST-APOCALYPTIC MUTANTS IN NEWEST BUDWEISER AD TO DEBUT DURING DAYTONA 500
ST. LOUIS (Feb. 13, 2007) - As if trying to earn his second Daytona 500 victory wasn't enough of a challenge, NASCAR's four-time Most Popular Driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr., fends off a posse of post-apocalyptic mutant warriors in Budweiser's newest ad titled "Apocalypse," set to debut during Sunday's Daytona 500 on Fox-TV.
Dale Jr.'s pursuers chase the red No. 8 Chevy across a barren desert landscape, flinging fire bombs and wielding chainsaws, in pursuit of the last Budweiser on Earth. Just when he seems surrounded, Dale Jr. emerges from the Budweiser No. 8 car to confront his pursuers, exuding the same Southern moxie that has made him one of the most liked athletes in America.
"NASCAR fans have never before seen an ad like this from Budweiser," said Randall Blackford, Director of Budweiser Marketing, Anheuser-Busch, Inc. "We wanted to have some fun, and showcase Jr.'s amazing driving skills and personality in a nontraditional setting."
Fans can get a look at the making of the ad at Budweiser.com and NASCAR.com, including exclusive behind-the-scenes video, and interviews with Dale Jr. and the production team. The 60-second ad, filmed near Lancaster, Calif. in mid-November, was directed by DDB Worldwide, Chicago. Dale Jr. has appeared in more than a dozen ads for Budweiser since 1999.
Budweiser is the "Official Beer of NASCAR," the title sponsor of the Budweiser #8 Chevrolet driven by Dale Earnhardt Jr., and sponsor of the Bud Pole Award in all NASCAR divisions through 2007. Anheuser-Busch is also the title sponsor of the annual Budweiser Shootout at Daytona, the exclusive beer and malt beverage advertiser of the Daytona 500, and the "Official Beer" of Daytona International Speedway. |
In addition to the Dale Jr. ad premiere, Budweiser is utilizing its position as the Official Beer of the Daytona 500 to introduce special Budweiser aluminum bottles featuring a checkered flag neck and the Daytona 500 logo. The bottles are on sale now in NASCAR race markets nationwide.
Based in St. Louis, Anheuser-Busch is the leading American brewer, holding a 48.8 percent share of U.S. beer sales. The company brews the world's largest-selling beers, Budweiser and Bud Light. Anheuser-Busch ranked No. 1 among beverage companies in FORTUNE Magazine's Most Admired U.S. and Global Companies lists in 2006. Anheuser-Busch is one of the largest theme park operators in the United States, is a major manufacturer of aluminum cans and one of the world's largest recyclers of aluminum cans.
