Dale Jr. Seventh in Bud Busch Car

Driving a Budweiser-sponsored Busch Series car for the first time in his career, Dale Jr.  and the Dale Earnhardt Inc. team finished seventh Saturday night in the season-finale at Homestead. Matt Kenseth won the race, while Kevin Harvick was officially crowned the 2006 Busch Series Champion after clinching the title seemingly months ago.

A relaxed Dale Jr. and team, led by crew chief Tony Eury Jr., enjoyed an evening where they ran among the top-10 for the vast majority of the 200-lap race.

Best radio chatter this evening (among many funny moments)
.

During a yellow flag period on lap 52:
Dale Jr:
(referring to a recent fan/media poll at NASCAR.com celebrating 25 years of the Busch Series): "Hey Stiffy (Tony Jr.) did you know I was voted one of the two or three best Busch Series drivers of all time?"
Eury Jr: "No, I didn't know that."
Dale Jr.: "Yup. The fans voted me number two behind Mark Martin. And the media had me number three behind Mark and Sam Ard."
Tony Jr: "Where was Jack Ingram?"
Dale Jr: (laughing and joking) "I dunno, but I dominated him. And this is for all you Dale Jr. fans: that's Dale Jr. in second - not Dale Sr. I was rated ahead of Dadddy...ha!"

During a caution-flag session beginning on lap 60, while running in the sixth position:

Dale Jr: "We should pit for gas here. I'd like to start at the back. (silence) Didja hear that Tony Jr?"
Eury Jr. (crew chief): "Yeah. I can't recommend that."
Dale Jr.: "In case you didn't hear me, I think we should stop for gas. I wanna pass a buncha cars."
Richie Gilmore (VP of Racing for DEI): "There's five cars in front of you. Why don't you pass them?"
Dale Jr.: "They're not as fun. I might pass one or two, but by the time I do that, the rest of 'em will get away.  It's a lot more fun to start at the back and pass a buncha cars that are a lot slower."

Dale Jr. Day in Miami-Dade County
Dale Jr. was honored Saturday morning with a proclamation in honor of November 17 being "Dale Earnhardt Jr." day in Miami-Dade County. The proclamation was presented a news conference announcing a new "Tow to Go" program between AAA and Anheuser-Busch promoting safe and responsible driving. The award was signed by Miami/Dade mayor Carlos Alvares and the Board of the County Commission.
