Shirley Faulkner-Horne's dynamic approach and generosity has done untold work over decades for charities that exist to help young people. Her own married daughter has multiple sclerosis. The author was a founding Trustee of the Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy and continues to encourage and inspire those whom she meets. Her husband is an ex-Battle of Britain pilot and they have lived and farmed for many years in Hampshire, in the New Forest.

Shirley Faulkner-Horne wrote her first book at the age of fifteen, when she was a pupil at Sherborne School. This was published by Country Life, and has been followed since then by many others. The author's understanding of the magic of ponies enables her to create a world of pleasure for pony loving children. She began the "Children's Letter Box" page in "Riding" magazine, and throughout her career has been involved in showing, show jumping and polo.
