Filipp Lepalaan is a former Apple
Service Engineer with 6 years of tech support
experience during which he's taken apart pretty much
every Mac ever built and troubleshooted every Mac OS
that has been used in production. In the summer of
2006 he also became a Certified Apple Trainer of Final
Cut Pro. Currently I am finishing my bachelor's
thesis, titled "Peer-to-peer content delivery
networks".
He's one of the founding members of the Estonian Macintosh User Group, an assistant webmaster at afp548.com, an infrequent participant of macfreelancer.com and a less-than-infrequent contributor to growingontrees.com.
I'd be interested in challanging Mac OS X and UNIX system administration jobs in the motion picture/post production/broadcasting environments. You can download my resume here. Saatavana myös suomeksi.
This weblog is most of all a learning tool for myself. There's so much interesting stuff going on in the Mac and IT world, that it helps to write things down. just to keep track of them. I figured, if I'm doing it, I might as well try a little harder to make it understandable enough so that others might discover something useful as well. Who knows, maybe someone will even comment on something...
Oh, and that picture of me was made by the talented José Ramos over at iconizeme.com.
The first experience I ever had with a real computer was at the age of 8 - playing Arkanoid. Was introduced to the Macintosh in around 93. Got my own PC around the same time - a 33Mhz 386 "laptop". It's on this machine that I first got into programming - creating a text-based adventure game and some basic database stuff in "Beginners All-around System Instruction Code" (mostly playing Civilization though). I got my first summer job as a PC salesman when I was 15 - naturally, that didn't quite work out...
I think GNU/Linux is a wonderful platform for anyone interested in computers. It's the platform where one can really make a difference. I got my first Mac (LC 475) around when I was 16.. and never looked back. I like Macs because they're elegant and as an engineer, I can learn alot from the platform. I also like the users. Many of them have a different kind of relationship with their computer than on the major platform.
After graduating from high school in 2000 I moved to Finland to study computers and have lived here ever since, on-and-off. Finland is nice. And not just because I was introduced to the HP microlab :)
I was extremely lucky to get an internship at a local Apple Center - it was hard work, but the staff was great and so was the experience. I learned alot. Then I was fortunate to be admitted to EVTEK in the Media Engineering department. I'm still there.
My hobbies are photography, all forms of motion picture and music.
