Birthing my PC
I put together a PC and it hates me
I went to Central Computer on Saturday and got
all the pieces for a pretty good PC. I got out of there for $680 and for those
of you who care, I got a AMD 2600 barton CPU, and an ATI 9600XT graphics card.
The store was pretty kick-ass (and no-nonsense at the same time) with a big
selection and employees who knew what they were talking
about.
Putting it all together went OK
too, my friend Darren had done this before and helped me out quite a bit. I
installed Fedora Core 1 on it and it actually worked pretty well, I was up
chatting and browsing (after a quick install of the nvidia unified driver thingy
for my motherboard) in no time.
Things
went downhill after that. I tried to update the video drivers so I could use
resolutions other than 1024 x 768, and things went all weird. Then inexplicably
the keyboard stopped being detected and the little crapper won't boot.
So things are not the best right now
but nothing is physically broken as far as I know, so that is good.
