During the 2003-2004 school year Washington Park High School celebrated 75 years of excellent traditions in academics, athletics, clubs and organizations. To make this year a special one, the 75th Anniversary Committee began planning by looking to David Andersen, graphic designer –class of 1971, to create our official logo. Mr. Andersen created a handsome logo featuring the Panther mascot bordered by our school colors orange and blue. This logo is underscored by our official slogan, “Our Tradition Shines On!” The 75th Anniversary Committee feels this slogan encompasses the spirit of Washington Park High School as it expands on the much beloved emblem of the Beacon and its “Thy Light Shall Guide Us” theme that is resounded in our school song. The Beacon is also the name of our school newspaper that is published and distributed to students throughout the school year. The 75th Anniversary logo can be found on banners hanging inside and outside of our school, on spirit apparel and on attractive stationery.

Many special plans unfolded for students, staff, alumni and friends of Washington Park High School to enjoy this anniversary year. The following is a list of events.

*Our Historical committee is actively involved in research of our schools past including information about the original Racine High School and will be sharing their finds with us.

*The establishment of an all-new Washington Park High School Foundation, designed to financially help our school continue its excellent academic, athletic, and departmental traditions.

*A professional photograph was taken of our faculty to commemorate our 75th year.

*25 years ago a time capsule was buried at Washington Park High School during our 50th anniversary celebration -this was dug up and its contents were displayed.

*Many special mid-fall and winter indoor and outdoor activities and class competitions took place for students and staff. Ideas included snow and ice sculpture contests and tournament style basketball games.

*On Sunday, May 9th 2004, we rededicated our school and dedicated our new Technology wing in GRAND STYLE, included in the day was:

* *A reunion style reception to meet old friends and greet one another in the Washington Park High School Field House.

* *Following the reception, a formal rededication ceremony took place featuring Miss Barbara McNair entertainer and a Washington Park High School Hall of Fame member. Other special guests were past and present administrators and staff members. Mr. John Burns, an alumni staff member was our Master of Ceremonies.

* *An expo-style area displayed memorabilia and souvenirs for all to enjoy as well as a media show that highlighted the past 75 years of our school’s history.

* *School tours were lead by students who noted points of interest and sharing Washington Park High School trivia.
