May Day Madrigal Feast

The May Day Madrigal Feast at Park High School

Who says a Madrigal Feast has to take place at Christmas time?  Or that Renaissance-Style Revelry needs to wait for an open-air summertime setting?

The winter of our discontent is becoming a distant memory, the darling buds of May are set to burst open in all their glory, and glad hearts turn to things merry and light.  Come celebrate Spring with us at Washington Park High School, and be our guest at the May Day Madrigal Feast held on April 29th & 30th.

Enter the mythical kingdom of Kipikawi, an English-speaking land where the lords and ladies of the realm are set to throw off the dreariness of the cold weather months - for just as in Wisconsin, spring doesn't always arrive when the calendar says it must. Lord Musterberg and Lady Abigail have everything ready for the festivities to come, but something always seems to complicate their best-laid plans and liven things up a bit.  A touch of magic, comedy, mystery, romance... with each new year the May Day Feast is held, the events there take a different turn.  But regardless of any complications, all is certain to end well by the close of the celebration.

The heart of the Madrigal Feast is built around the considerable talents of the Park Vocal Ensemble, whose sweet harmonies and flowing a cappella renditions set a magical  mood for all in attendance.  Add a few well- chosen plot twists, a supporting cast of versatile players, a bevy of saucy serving wenches, plus a few surprises... you'll have the makings of an experience sure to be long remembered. If all this makes you want to be a part of the revelry, consider yourself invited!  We delight in, and encourage our audiences to join in with whatever would be a "comfortable level of participation" for each person.  Feel free to come dressed in Renaissance costume, dialogue with cast members and wenches, or perfect your English dialect... it's all in the spirit of good fun.  Otherwise just sit back,  soak in the atmosphere around you and enjoy.

Speaking of the meal, it's definitely what gives the Feast its name.  Our catering is done by Cecilia's Catering, with a reputation of putting together some of the finest dining experiences for everyone from Post-Prom attendees to service organization members.

When you add up the value of the concert, stage performance and dinner, this is one of the best arts bargains in Racine.  Add to that the benefit of encouraging the next generation of local performance talent, and put the May Day Madrigal Feast on your social calendar.

Performance times are at 7 p.m. on April 29th and 4 p.m. on April 30th.  To reserve tickets or for more information call 619-4438.
