ECO-TOURISM.
One of the main interesting features of the area in between Sighisoara, Medias and Sighisoara is the natural beauty and richness in both animals and plants. This hasn't been hidden for the European Union, who want to protect this so called 'Tarnave mare region' due to a project that's called 'Natura 2000'. The idea is that in a soon future this area will be a protected reservate. This offers good possibilities for eco tourism, that we offer you. We want to show the importance of keeping this region and this habitat as pure as possible. Eyetours wants to stay small, with groups not bigger as 10 persons, we don't support mass tourism in this area. That's good for the villages and their way of life, and is good for the tourist who can still see an more or less unspoiled habitat.We hope, with focusing during our tours on small scale agriculture and nature to sustain an understanding to preserve this for future generations.
Due to the Natura 2000 Tarnave Mare project, the 'Transilvanian highway'probably won't cross this region anymore as was the original plan!
We work according to the 'Fair Trade' principal; we work as much as possible with the locals, and they all get a sufficient benefit for their work.
BIRDWATCHING.
This area has an remarkable birdlife.In the Tarnave mare region you find an overwhelming amount of rare and exciting birds. This makes our tours and hikes an excellent occassion for birdwatchers to join us. Here you find the biggest concentration of lesser spotted eagles in Europe, as well as big amounts of ural owls, eurasian eagle-owls and other birds of prey. In the summermonths especially you see at a daily base bee-eaters, hoopoes,shrikes and storks. The forests are great spots as well for different woodpeckers, as the Syrian and the green woodpecker, and for the rare nightjar. We are amateur photographers of landscapes, animals, people and especially birds, so we make sure you will have good possibilities of shooting your own pics as well during our tours!
In this region you still find the European brown bear and the wolf, of which we might find traces during our hiking tours.
Next to that there is always a big chance of seeing roedeer, fox, and also red deer, wild boar, wild cat etc.
The meadows here are fully covered with an incredible amount of wild flowers, there are many different orchidees etc.
In this beautiful countryside nature is still sustained by small scale agriculture.
The tours that we offer can differ from week to week, depending on the roads, the occuring of special occassions such as markets and festivals or new insights.
