The Wallstreet broken/loose clutch
I've thrown this page together for those experiencing a "wobbly" or loose screen on their Wallstreet Powerbooks. This seems to be an issue experienced by an increasing number of Wallstreet Powerbook owners. Below, I have a series of pictures of my machine. Unfortunately, the clutch/hinge mechanisms on my 'book exploded, leaving the display unable to remain open (ie. it flops down). I've not found any good resources for dealing with this problem. As with many others, my machine is outside of its one-year warranty, but within its usable life (three years). Apple service centers are not equipped with the necessary replacement parts to perform this repair. Some users have managed to find used clutches to repair their machines. They are in demand and hard to find.....most being cannibalized from broken displays. I'm still trying to locate a used pair of clutches/hinges in order to avoid an $800 repair (Most dealers would just replace the display).
