Statement

My work explores the fragile world of non-human primates and our relationship to them. I have had the great fortune of knowing many primates on an individual basis, having spent over twenty years working and forming unique relationships with them in a zoo setting. For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to bring attention to the rapid pace at which these animals are losing their natural habitat.

I work in oils mostly, choosing to focus primarily on portraits, although recently I have been working with natural materials such as soil and charcoal, and grasses and twigs.

By closing the door on their survival, we are inextricably stripping the natural world of its' richness and diversity. By attempting to raise awareness of the primates' plight for survival, my aim is to leave us wondering about our own mortality.
