From the unmitigated chaos of the fall of the Roman Empire sprung forth the decidedly ineffectual Merovingian Dynasty. Much like their rule after Clovis, the state of education under the Merovingian Kings was in shambles. Charlemagne brought order not only through imperial prowess, but also through the expansion of scholarship, and the dissemination of the products of culture. This increased availability contributed to the creation of new and more advanced products of culture. Charlemagne then in turn exploited these products, among them the standardization of writing, to increase the strength and effectiveness of his rule.
