Sampling of Activities and Field Trips
ACTIVITIES
will include most, if not all, of the following:
- art classes and
workshops: book/journal-making, mosaics, fused glass
jewelry-making, artist trading cards, life drawing,
basket-weaving
- swimming
- kayaking and canoeing
- bicycling
- cairn building (a la Andy Goldsworthy) and collecting of
driftwood and other shore treasures
- bird-watching (bald eagles, great blue herons, egrets,
osprey, hummingbirds, finches, etc)
- volleyball, badminton, tennis, bocce ball, Frisbee, and
other outdoor games
- Oxford-Bellevue Ferry ride and ice cream cones in the
park and a walk through Historic town
- field trips to remarkable artist studios and galleries
(weaving, mosaics, woodworking/furniture building,
instrument-maker, ceramics, painting – see descriptions
below)
- music and dance workshops and/or free-time/evening
pastimes for those who are interested (ensemble work, a
cappella singing, international songs and dances)
- African drumming workshop
- baking and cooking classes – learn how to make crepes and
waffles, bread, grenola, delicious salad dressings, won
tons, poppyseed cake, hummus, stromboli, hollandaise, and
more
- readings of favorite poems, plays and passages;
collecting of quotes for our handmade books
- sharing sessions – campers and staff who would enjoy
having a chance to teach a favorite craft, game, recipe, or
share other special talents
FIELD TRIPS
- Gallery by the River: Contemporary Tapestry Weaving and
Studio

Mosaics

We will visit
the Indoor and outdoor exhibits of marvelous mosaic
creations, plus the working studio space of Craigie Succup
and Susan Wasilewski.
- Woodworking and Furniture Building Shop c/o master
artisans Jim Beggins and Jim McMartin (famous for building
the Maryland Governor’s desk out of the majestic, historic
Wye Oak tree)
- Caledon Glassworks ~ Stained Glass Studio of Paul Winters
- Visit to artist Sue Stockman’s back yard to see the
myriad of creations in wood and mosaic, and further down
Railroad Ave. in St. Michaels, a visit with Steve Fagan to
see his guitar-building studio.
- Oxford-Bellevue Ferry ride and a walk through the
historic town of Oxford, plus ice cream cones in a
beautiful park with small beach and skipping stones.
OTHER POSSIBILITIES:
- Visit to horse
farm in Trappe, Maryland, home of cellist Carey Miller and
classical guitarist and master builder Peter Zukoski – to
see their famous octagonal barn and music studio.
- Tour of home and gardens at the historic Clays-Hope farm
~ dating back to the 1700’s. We will hear the owners
describe their years of restoration work and tell an
amazing story about the family that once lived there.
- Academy Art Museum
- Avalon Theatre
- Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum
- Unicorn Book Store (rare and used books)
- Dragonwings puppetry studio of Debra Hathaway and Eric
Heath
- Community dance (contra, circle and square) with live
music
- Evening concert in historic St. Michaels harbor-front
park
- Pottery studio of Martha and Forrest Bogan, creators of
the famous “Crab Drop” for the First Night Talbot
celebration in Easton.
